Ode to the Courtyard

A little letter to the courtyard at my parents house.

Dear Courtyard,

You are the bane of my existence. Do you try to hide leaves in your many corners and crevices? When you were a courtyard of pink rock you always had a single solitary bare spot despite my best efforts at raking, trying to make you look beautiful. Now that you have been grassed over you still have spots where the grass just doesn't grow. I guess you are saving space for your leaves. You never seem to lack leaves to rake. After hours of raking I can still find them. Why do you pain me so?

I know I have forgotten to water your hanging plants and thus killed them, but this is just one small mistake. You've dished out worse. Like the time my high school boyfriend took out your yucca and you left him cursing, cut up and sweaty.

Can we call a truce of some sorts? Dearest Courtyard, I promise to rake your leaves every time I visit if you promise to stop hiding leaves. Will you agree?

Patiently waiting for your response,
Aspen

The courtyard is beautiful. I love landscaping. Someday we'll have more than just grass and weeds. Next year we've vowed to give our yard an overdue makeover. Adam will be almost two so I can work while he and Owen play. I hope all is well. We are headed off to a mini family vacation this weekend!
